1760 England
Anna Wren is a penniless widow caring for her mother-in-law as well as a young girl. When she hears the Earl of Swartingham has need of a secretary, she quickly applies to his steward, getting the job. You see, Edward de Raaf, the Earl in question can’t manage to keep a secretary for any length of time due to his temper, but Anna isn’t afraid of the man who nearly ran her over with his enormous horse. She needs to care for her family, and she won’t let a little temper stand in her way.
Edward has no time for timid secretaries; he has a manuscript to write for the Agrarian Society, a group of men from farmer to noble intent on the newest methods of agriculture. Edward is somewhat of an expert, and he must get his paper written right away. Setting his steward, Mr. Hopple, to find another secretary, Edward hies off to London to contract for a betrothal. He has no clue what awaits him when he returns, but he is soon to have a secretary unlike any other.
With a wonderful blend of brilliant dialogue, scorching love scenes and a parallel fairy tale the RAVEN PRINCE is a fabulous debut for author, Elizabeth Hoyt. Anna and Edward are a remarkable couple; both are strong, loyal, independent and flawed characters. From the opening scene, the reader is well aware of the strong chemistry between these protagonists. The secondary cast of characters is delightfully diverse; form the whore Anna takes into her home to care for after a beating, to Edwards dog, Jock, to the elderly and cantankerous valet, Davis and the irrepressible dandy, Hopple; I have not enjoyed a book more in quite some time. Set in 1760 England, the RAVEN PRINCE is a fresh, sensual, exciting and emotional tale that is sure to launch a brilliant career author, Elizabeth Hoyt. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of Historical Romance. Bravo!
